Chairman message

“The year of 2008 will be a very important one for the Vaurien class, due to the recent changes to the class rules, in an attempt to make it more appealing and competitive.
Conscious of this, the Organization Team for the 47th Vaurien World Championship, with the full support of the hosting club Clube Naval de Leça, the Mayor of Matosinhos, the Administration of the Leixões harbour and the Porto Atlantic Marina, will do its utmost to meet the challenge and provide the best conditions for a very participative, competitive and fun event.
The excellent sea and wind conditions, usually found in Matosinhos, and the improvements that took place recently at the venue infrastructures, particularly those related to the boat’s parking lot and water access ramps, will assure a much easier life to the sailors.
Special attention will also be given to the social side of the event, where the traditional Portuguese hospitality, coupled with the rich cuisine and lively nightlife, characteristics of Matosinhos, will certainly be very attractive to sailors, racing committee officials and all other visitors, in a perfect complement to the competitive spirit taking place at sea.
A major ambition for this organization is to succeed in bringing to this event some sailors from countries where the class is less known, in order to enhance the exchange of experiences and help the development of dinghy sailing as a whole, and the Vaurien class in particular, in those countries.
We think we have all the conditions to accomplish an excellent Vaurien World Championship. Now, we look forward to your enthusiastic participation. "

Dear Vaurien Sailors

As President of Clube Naval de Leça, I'd like to thank first of all the C.I.V. for having trusted our Club to organize the Vaurien World Championship and the Vaurien World Junior Championship.I ´m sure we can offer you all necessary conditions to accomplish this event with success and enthusiasm, mainly because of the importance and the tradition of the Vaurien Class in Portugal and particularly in Clube Naval de Leça.
Therefore I greet and warmly welcome the Vaurien family and assure that I and all the team in this organization will do our utmost to provide all the participants and their companions a nice stay in Matosinhos, as well as excellent races.

Please, do not hesitate and contact CNL, whenever necessary. I look forward for D day.
